Traditionally used in Indian homes as a low wooden platform or floor seat, Pata boards were practical everyday pieces, used for sitting, serving, food preparation and domestic rituals. Today, their simple proportions and wonderfully aged surfaces make them particularly appealing as decorative objects.
This example has a fabulous faded green painted finish, naturally worn away over the years to reveal layers of soft blue, muted green and warm natural timber beneath. Knocks, marks, paint loss and irregularities across the surface are all part of its history and give each area its own texture and character.
Raised slightly from the floor on simple wooden supports, it works beautifully styled as a low display plinth, beneath a favourite pot or sculpture, on a coffee table, or simply displayed on its own as an authentic piece of Indian vernacular furniture.
